YOUR CHARACTER NAME: Wade Winston Wilson (a.k.a. Deadpool) JOURNAL:ishotyouuu FANDOM:Deadpool AGE: Not specified in canon, but looks to be in his early to mid-thirties. APPEARANCE:Masked and unmasked.
Wade stands tall, at about 6’4” or so. At first glance, his body seems at the peak of physical health. It’d be understandable if you thought there was a fine specimen of a man underneath all of that spandex and leather, and you’d be partially right. Without the mask, however, Wade looks like someone who’s been dragged facefirst down the asphalt road of life-- quite literally, in fact. Years of living with a genetically enhanced strain of cancer doesn’t exactly play nice with the complexion, giving him an appearance very similar to one in advanced stages of leprosy. Some superheroes wear masks to hide their identities. Wade wears his (as well as a holographic device to hide his appearance) in order to prevent people from running away screaming/vomiting copiously in his presence. Stuff like doesn’t really do much for the ego. CANON POINT: Some time after the Cable & Deadpool arc. MEMORY LOSS: Yes. Nearly all of Wade’s memories will be eradicated upon his arrival, including his name and everything else about himself. He’ll still retain his instincts and skills from his time as a mercenary, but don’t expect him to have any idea how the hell he knows all that stuff. Eventually he’ll regain his memories as the game progesses, but for now he’s more or less a blank slate.
WIKI/HISTORY:Here! The CliffsNotes and headcanon version is below:
Deadpool was born with the rather alliterative name of Wade Wilson. His mother died of cancer when he was eleven years old. The loss of his mother at such a young age left Wade emotionally stunted and resentful of his father, a stern military man who tried to raise the boy as best he could under the circumstances. Despite all of this, Wade followed in his father's footsteps and joined the army early on in his life. Perhaps the rigid, strict lifestyle of a soldier didn’t sit well with him, or maybe he just liked the idea of killing people a little too much. Whatever the reason, he became a mercenary for hire after his stint in the armed forces. It was a good job that paid well-- there was no shortage of people who wanted someone shuffled off the mortal coil-- and it seemed as though he had found his niche in the world.
Then the big “C” sauntered into his life without warning and without welcome, as cancer is wont to do.
Suddenly things weren’t so simple anymore. Even with the most aggressive treatments money could buy, Wade was losing the battle for his life by the second. It was at the moment when he was beginning to accept his fate that he heard about Weapon X, an experimental program that attempted to turn people into genetically enhanced supersoldiers. Wade was reluctant at first, but when the geneticists at the program told him that there was a chance he could be cured of his cancer, he signed up.
In hindsight, they weren’t totally untruthful.
The good news was that Wade’s genetic enhancement was-- after a false start-- a success, granting him a healing factor far more advanced than that of a normal human. The bad news was that this selfsame healing factor also fused with and accelerated the growth of his cancer, spreading it throughout his entire body. Wade was left horribly disfigured and with severe psychological damage, rendering him near-catatonic. He had been deemed a failure by the Weapon X program and sent to a high-security facility with other failed genetic experiments, but eventually managed to regain enough mental capacity to escape. He took the name “Deadpool” after the name of a betting game the other inmates played to find out who would survive the ordeal and who would not. Wade had been marked for death, and so his new name was a testament to the irony of his having survived. With a new life and a new name, Deadpool resumed his career as a mercenary, and became one of the most infamous assassins the world has ever known-- or so he likes to think. He always had a thing for self-exaggeration.
PERSONALITY: Being criminally insane in the membrane does give you some interesting personality quirks. There’s a reason one of Wade’s monikers is “Merc With a Mouth”-- he seems to be physically unable to shut the hell up. A master of rhetoric, he’s quick to sling taunts and witty comebacks in vast quantities (and sometimes in several different languages), even at the risk of his own safety. He has a “devil-may-care” attitude about the world around him, and seems to have little regard for anything except for where his next check is coming from. Because of this, he has very few friends, and even thinks of friendship as a “completely bogus concept”.
Despite his bravado, however, there is some compassion and kindness in that black little heart of his. (Somewhere. Deep down. Real deep. It’s there, okay? Trust me on this.) He’s fiercely loyal to the friends he does have, and even though he might be cold toward them at times or threaten them with severe bodily harm, he can be very protective of them in his own way. He gets lonely and depressed quite easily, and though he might not show it, is secretly hurt by the idea that quite a lot of people-- superhero and civilian alike-- hate him and want him brought to justice and/or dead. In the deepest part of him, he yearns to be a hero-- someone that people can look up to, admire, and even love. You don’t see a lot of kids running around in Deadpool costumes for Halloween, after all. Unfortunately, he finds acts of heroism difficult, unprofitable, and at times a waste of his talents-- being on the side of Good tends to conflict with the whole “killing people” thing, and seeing as he’s quite literally made a career out of it... Still, despite being essentially pigeonholed into anti-hero status, he does have a few codes by which he lives. One of those includes harming children. Not only does he forbid himself to kill a child-- even if killing said child would save countless lives in the long run-- but he’s also very intolerant of those who would do so. It’s not that he has any real love for kids (or so he claims) but from an assassin’s standpoint, they’re totally off-limits.
Wade has a habit of talking to himself, though it’s not really as much to himself as it is to those little yellow boxes of his. They’re pretty much around him constantly. He also has a rather annoying penchant for breaking the fourth wall, which most of his comrades have learned to ignore or chalk it up to yet another example of his crazy. His insanity has oftentimes been more of a hinder than a help, but it’s also gotten him out of a great many tough scrapes due to his potential to be totally unpredictable, and if there’s one thing he’s gotten very good at, it’s flying by the seat of his pants.
POWERS: Wade’s healing factor was implanted into him genetically, and as a result he can withstand any sort of wound or trauma without dying. Amputated limbs can be grown back, but it takes some time and is a rather unpleasant experience, so he usually opts to reattach the limb that was cut off. Brain damage also takes time to heal depending on the severity, and generally tends to leave him unconscious for a half an hour or more. Because of his brain cells being in a constant state of death and rebirth, he is virtually immune to any sort of telepathy or mind control. Alcohol and tranquilizers seem to have very little effect on him-- it takes a good amount of effort for him to get drunk or drugged. Likewise, he is impervious to all but the most potent of poisons. His accelerated healing has also increased his lifespan beyond that of a normal human, but to what extent is as yet unknown to him. (Note: Upon arriving at Striatum, his abilities will be severely hampered. He will now be unable to grow back his limbs, reattaching limbs takes a lot longer, and he is susceptible to mental invasion. He can also get drunk more easily, and it takes a lot less to drug him. He’s still pretty damn hard to kill, but anything that completely incapacitates him-- such as having his body torn completely apart, dissolved in acid, or suffering severe damage to internal organs that would instantly kill a normal person-- will render him technically “dead”.)
As for more mundane powers, Wade is essentially a jack-of-all-trades. Along with superior skill in artillery and close-ranged weapons, he is extraordinarily talented in hand-to-hand combat, holding his own against adversaries who vastly surpass him in speed and strength and even defeating them on more than a few occasions. He’s also a master of improvisation, capable of turning virtually anything he touches into a weapon, shield or distraction. His bullet-train of trash talk never stops, even when he’s at his physical limit, and has even succeeded in saving his life numerous times. Many people he’s fought against have attested that his mouth is the deadliest weapon in his arsenal-- quite ironic, considering it’s his lack of tact that usually gets him in trouble in the first place. Not that he minds it, of course. Fighting is basically like a drug to him. He lives for the thrill of battle and the satisfaction of adding one more win to his ever-growing collection (not to mention more money in the bank). Years of living with an accelerated healing factor have given him not only an increased tolerance to pain, but in some cases, an almost masochistic high from it. It has also made him quite reckless, a trait that probably won’t be dampened even if, say, he happened to lose some of that healing factor...
