APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN
There are 2 applications for Striatum. One for original universe characters and one for alternate universe, original characters and characters imported from another game. Please fill out the appropriate application for your character and post it below. If it is longer than 3 comments long, we ask that you post your application into your character's journal and leave us a link to it instead.
ORIGINAL UNIVERSE APPLICATION
Fill this one out if your character is NOT an AU, an import from another game or an original character. If your character is coming into the game straight from canon, this is the application for you.
ALTERNATE UNIVERSE, IMPORTS AND ORIGINAL CHARACTER APPLICATION
If your character IS from an alternate version of their canon, an import from another game or your own original character, apply using this application.

The KA virus lies dormant in everyone. Once it was released into the ecosystem in 2014, we had no more colds or cancer, but we got zombies instead. It spread all over the world and infected everyone. This does not mean everyone turned into a zombie, just that they were now carriers of the virus. You didn't become a zombie until you died, kickstarting the cells into gear and you basically getting reprogrammed to do nothing but eat and infect.
It is shown that, a single zombie is qui9te e3asy to take down. However, a horde of them will start being able to use tactics. It gets harder to take them down, the more of them there are.
Georgia herself grew up with the KA virus. She has what is known as a reservoir condition, meaning that she has the live virus somewhere inside her. In her particular case, it's within her eyes. They are dilated constantly and she needs sunglasses to help protect her from the light which can cause permanent damage. She is often bullied into taking her glasses off for various exams and when she was younger, people would either make fun of her or try and steal her glasses. Shaun would usually do his best to help but there isn't much that can be done when it's more than schoolyard bullying, especially when the government is involved.
As for how it affected her in other ways, she grew up in a culture of fear. Although her parents did things like take her and her brother eating outdoors and sent them to public schools, there's still a part of her that is affected by the general culture, despite what she may admit. As well as carrying the MP3 recorder she often uses, she often carries a gun, knows the exit routes for most indoor locations she's in and isn't hugely comfortable within crowds. She grew up in an internet based culture as well, so while that doesn't mean she can fix your computer, it does mean she knows the basics without blinking.
As for how the virus may affect the game, Georgia is going to be coming in right before her brother shoots her in Feed. She's going to be sick with the infection and while she is going to be able to fight it off, there's going to be a point where she's dangerous to others.
She and Shaun are each other's everything. They trust and depend on each other, they believe in each other and they have each other's back. She probably would not be able the manage the site on her own without him to temper her down and he would (and has proven) that he would go crazy without her. Some say they have a co-dependent relationship but considering how they grew up, it's fairly understandable.
She is her most honest with Shaun, letting herself relax around him and trust that, if he's there, things are going to turn out relatively okay. She's still herself, of course, but she's also more willing to crack a joke here and there and little things like that when he's around.
As for Buffy, she's more inclined to look at that as a working relationship rather than a friendship. Although that doesn't mean she sees Buffy as *just* an employee of the site, she does have a detachment to her that she doesn't have with Shaun. However, Georgia did trust Buffy, not only with all of the tech and information that the site held but as a friend.
When Buffy betrayed them, Georgia was hurt and surprised but she tried to not let it affect hger. She didn't expect it at all, considering she thought she knew Buffy and that meant that Buffy wouldn't do anything like this to betray them.
Journalism isn't different exactly, more that it's evoked. Mainstream news isn't trusted anymore and now the public goes to blogs for their information. Because the big news companies let them down when the virus first hit, people are less inclined to go to them for their information.
Blogs compete with mainstream news to get the information out there and, for the most part, the blogs are winning. They're only just starting to get real notice by other media, in Feed but it's obvious the way things are going.
