YOUR CHARACTER
NAME: Gilbert Beilschmidt [a.k.a. Prussia (Preußen, 1525-1947; 1990-present day), a.k.a. Teutonic Knights (Deutscher Orden, 1190-~1230), a.ka. Order-State (Ordensstaat, (~1230-1525), a.k.a. East Germany (Ostdeutschland, 1949-1990)].
JOURNAL: [personal profile] blutundeisen
FANDOM: Axis Powers: Hetalia
AGE: 822
APPEARANCE: Have a picture, source here.

Though Gilbert embodies the nation of Prussia, and as such is nearly a thousand years old, he only looks to be in his early- to mid-twenties. Since 1945, he's been rather small, hovering right around 5'9” and slight of frame, though he's deceptively strong for his size, thanks to the strength of the German military. He keeps short white hair cropped in a perpetually-messy mop, just above the level of his dark red eyes. His hair, eyes, and extremely pale skin tone suggest albinism, though as a country, of course he doesn't display any kind of light sensitivity or other defect. He chalks it up to just “being cooler than everyone else, kesese.” 'Kesesese' is the sound of his distinctive laugh, and it peppers most of his conversations.

He'll often wear plain black pants and a white button-down shirt if he intends on going anywhere, though it's just as common to see him wearing jeans and an old T-shirt. For special occasions, he'll wear his modern Bundeswehr uniform, or if he feels like showing off, he'll dig one of his older uniforms out of the attic... though notably, uniforms from the 1930's-40's stay buried. No matter what outfit he's wearing, he always has his Iron Cross from 1813 either tucked under his shirt, or in the case where he wears his plain blue uniform, attached to the knot of his tie on prominent display.

Gilbert wears an almost-perpetual mocking grin on his face, regardless of his true emotions. It's rare to see him frown, and even rarer to see him genuinely smile. The few times he actually looks serious is when he's doing something that he considers important enough to take seriously, such as military operations or matters of national security.

Finally, there's almost always a little yellow chick perched on top of his head or his shoulder. He only recently discovered this little bird up there thanks to pictures on his blog, and has since taken to calling the little guy “Gilbird.”

CANON POINT: 2012

MEMORY LOSS:Yes, I'd like to have Prussia lose almost all of his memories, so he has no reason to suspect that he's anything other than human. This would erase practically a thousand years of history, though he'll remember certain names and specific events, and know they're important (such as Frederick the Great or the fall of the Berlin Wall), he won't know why. I'd like to enter him knowing his name and those of his canonmates, but not knowing how he knows these names, or how he's related to them. Later on, as the game progresses, I'd like to see him start to regain some of those memories, or question why he sometimes feels far older than he should, or why he can remember events from centuries in the past as though he'd relived them, but to start, I'd like to have him as almost a blank slate.

WIKI: Hetalia wiki page on Prussia; however, I'd like to add a few more character and historical details to this. I've also typed up a more comprehensive history of Prussia for additional reading (from 1190-1618, available upon request), but as I didn't want to clog up the app itself, I'll attempt to summarize with important character events.

In the beginning, Gilbert was a member of the Teutonic Knights, a religious order founded to protect Christians on their pilgrimages through the Holy Land. With the defeat of the Christians, he was driven into first Transylvania, then conquered the Baltic State of the Old Prussians. It is from then on that his core territory remains mostly the same, and he starts to refer to himself as Prussia. He went from being a tiny state, to a duchy under Poland, to finally a German kingdom from the mid-13th century to the early 17th century.

In terms of religion, Gilbert converted to Lutheranism not long after the Protestant Reformation of 1525; however, the worst devastation he suffered was during the Thirty Years War (1618-1648), which left his lands in shambles and his population decimated. He still remembers the way that dissenting faiths (Roman Catholic and Lutheranism) tore the land apart, and for many years afterward, resented those of Catholic faith.

His real claim to European power didn't come until 1740, with the War of Austrian Succession, which was closely followed by the Seven Years War. These wars saw Prussia invade the Austrian Habsburg territory of Silesia, and marked the first military victory by a smaller state over the established Habsburg Monarchy. Prussia upset the balance of European powers in this one move, under the command of Frederick the Great (Friedrich II), and finally seized a place in the spotlight of European politics. Gilbert is still indebted to “Old Man Fritz” for this, and will still routinely ask “the old man” to “watch over him from Heaven.”

Prussia has been referred to as “not a state with an army, but an army with a state.” From the 18th century onward, Prussian leaders focused heavily on their military, building arguably the most modern and most advanced military of their time. The early 19th century saw the rise of the French emperor Napoleon; in the course of the Napoleonic Wars, perhaps the most important development for Gilbert himself was the instilling of the idea of a national German state. No longer were people strictly loyal to their monarch; even with the defeat of Napoleon, there began to rise clamors for a state united by ethnicity.

These lead to various small-scale revolutions through the course of the 19th century, until finally the Prussian Empire was determined that, if Germany were to unify, it would be under its power, not the (German) Austrian Habsburgs. To put the Wars of German Unification into Hetalia-terms, Gilbert and Roderich (Austria) fought what amounted to a custody battle over the German States (Ludwig). First the Prussians and Austrians took joint-control over the ethnically-German territories of Schleswig and Holstein from the Kingdom of Denmark in 1864, then Prussia went to war with Austria in 1866 for full control of the German territories. This “Seven Week's War” was ended with an overwhelming victory for the Prussians, and forced the Austrians to back off from further control of German territory.

Finally, with victory over France in 1871, German unification was completed under Prussia. Gilbert saw Ludwig (Germany) as his little brother, and treated him as such, giving the land and much of the control to him. Prussia was still a kingdom, but under the dominion of the German Empire. Gilbert sees himself as being responsible for raising Ludwig from childhood to the strong empire he became, and loves him as his “super-cute little brother.”

This all changed with the German defeat in the Great War (1918). The times from the end of that war to the rise of the Third Reich (1930s) were extremely difficult for both Gilbert and Ludwig. It was the first major defeat Gilbert had suffered in centuries, and led to major reparations payments imposed by the Allies in general and the French specifically. This only fed resentment against the French, some still lingering since the Franco-Prussian War of 1871, and left both Gilbert and Ludwig almost crippled. At their weakest point, they were promised a return to former glory with the rise of a new leader – Adolf Hitler. Under Hitler, Germany was able to regain a measure of its former strength, until they were ready to strike out against the Allied forces again in the Second World War (1939-1945). Though they were once again militarily strong, Hitler's growing madness began to affect Ludwig, while the massive atrocities against their own people, many of whom were part of regions that had been Prussian, started to take their toll on Gilbert. By the end of the war, Gilbert was a shell of his former self, militarily and economically devastated.

Post-World War II, Gilbert was left in stasis for several years, as he was no longer Prussia, or even really part of Germany. At this point, he was closest to becoming a part of Russia, then the Soviet Union. It took until the official establishment of East Germany in 1949 that Gilbert was able to move around and act like a country again, though he was separated from his little brother, and had to follow orders from the Soviet Union. During this time, he did his best to aid the underground resistance movements the best he could, though as time went on, he started to feel as though he were becoming more Russian than German, thanks to many ethnically-German people fleeing East Germany for the West whenever possible.

October 3, 1990, the Berlin Wall came down and East and West Germany were united into a single German country again. Gilbert had half-expected that he would die from this, since he wouldn't have any territory that he would call his own. It had been years since he'd been able to see Ludwig, and though he was severely weakened as he embraced the other, he remained alive, and is the only known country to be without a country yet still alive.

In present day, Gilbert lives with his brother in his house in Berlin. He has some control over the small area of Kaliningrad Oblast in Russia, though there are almost no Germans left in the area. Mostly, he thinks he's still alive thanks to people within Germany itself who still see themselves as “Prussian,” and as such, still refers to himself as Prussia.

PERSONALITY: On the surface, Gilbert seems to be a fairly simple person – he loves to tease and taunt, especially his friends, though it's almost always kept good-natured. He'll give most people he meets a nickname based on their physical appearance or manner; good luck getting rid of that nickname once he's assigned it. His absolute favorite activity is going to the bar with his little brother Ludwig (Germany), and as he says any good German should do, attempt to drink him under the table. He'll answer to Gilbert, though he prefers being called Prussia. The name might no longer be technically correct, but it's all he's got.

As with most countries, he keeps his true identity secret from the general population; only a few important military and diplomatic leaders are privy to his identity, though as always, it is up to the individual nation just how open he or she is to his or her citizenry. Prussia has always kept himself fairly separate from people in general, though he has gotten close to many throughout his history. Perhaps the most important of these people is Frederick the Great, who led him to becoming a major European power in 1740. Every year, he'll still place flowers and a few small potatoes on his grave in remembrance. Unlike his brother, Gilbert enjoys the company of regular people, and would rather reveal himself to them – but the main thing that keeps him from revealing the truth is thanks to his more recent history, associated with the Third Reich (Nazi Germany). He's well-aware that many foreigners still look at Germans in this light, and he wants to make sure that he'll never do anything to add to that again.

That said, part of the reason why he always refers to himself as “the Awesome Me,” even in modern day, is in an attempt to buoy the spirits of his younger brother. Gilbert acts a lot more confident than he really is, charging headlong into reckless situations and always seeing the brighter side of every event. He truly believes that being a German is the best thing ever, and even though the German people are afraid to be nationalistic, even today, Gilbert tries to make up the difference, in the hope that some day, Ludwig will be able to show his own pride in his accomplishments.

Gilbert was one of the most powerful and militarily-advanced empires in modern European history for a very long time – as such, he is disciplined and tries to stay strong even into modern day, running and exercising according to his own routine. Though he tends to act like a goof most of the time, when the situation calls for it, he can snap to attention and lead like a general or commander if necessary.

He does love being the center of attention; it reminds him of being an empire, when he was able to command attention merely by entering a room. These days, he's more creative about it, doing such things as hiding under desks to surprise people or bursting uninvited into important meetings. He's more on the wild side, taking pride in being unpredictable and delighting in causing trouble. Mostly, he just wants to remind people that, though Prussia is gone, he's still there, and he's not going to remain just a leftover bit of the past... though in truth, he's terrified that one day, he'll simply cease to exist.

There are no modern countries that know what it's like to watch another nation die, or if they do, they're not telling. The last nation that Gilbert knew who “died” was the Holy Roman Empire, and if anyone knows what happened to him afterward, it would only be France and Austria. Part of Gilbert's constant urgency in many of his actions stems from the fear that tomorrow, he might not wake up, and finally cease to exist.

POWERS: As the physical manifestation of a former empire, Gilbert is very tough to kill, and is nigh-immortal. He hasn't managed to get himself killed yet, and can take a lot more injuries than a normal person could before passing out. He heals a lot faster than a person would, though in times when the economy is bad, he could be stricken with a cold or flu-like symptoms. He has grown since he was a child as the Teutonic Knights, but since 1945, hasn't seemed to have aged since.

For purposes of the game, however, I'd like to disregard the economy of Germany affecting the character himself, due to the fact that this game takes place in an alternate universe.

RP SAMPLE: Thread from game Bete Noire

ANYTHING ELSE?: I think the tl;dr personality and history cover pretty much anything that I'd want to add, but please, if there's anything I'm missing, let me know. Also, I feel like I should warn that I'll be leaving the U.S. to study abroad in Germany for four weeks, so my activity level will be fairly low to start with.

YOUR CHARACTER
NAME: Tiffany Aching
JOURNAL: [personal profile] hagothehills
FANDOM: Discworld (Specifically; Wee Free Men, Hat Full Of Sky, Wintersmith & I Shall Wear Midnight)
AGE: 16
APPEARANCE: Tiffany Aching is a brown-haired young woman of 18, who wears a plain black dress, a tall pointed hat, and is
CANON POINT: The end of I Shall Wear Midnight; BEFORE she speaks to Eskarina after the resolution of Roland's wedding, and sees herself wearing the Hare, assured of her future and her eventual acceptance of love with Preston, IE, before the epilogue and before the last little bit of the last chapter.
MEMORY LOSS: No.

WIKI:Link! I have a much more thorough account of book events here in her Bablyon Wood app here.

PERSONALITY: When Tiffany was eight years old, the Baron's son vanished into the wood and never came back. They blamed an old woman nearby, Mrs. Snapperly, who was old, poor, and mostly forgotten. They burned her cottage to the ground, called her a witch, but with no proof, could not put her to death. Instead, the Baron declared that no one could aid her -- and so instead, she starved and froze over one harsh winter on the Chalk.

Tiffany decided then and there, that she was going to be a real witch, so things like this didn't happen anymore. She was a precise girl. She knew Snapperly couldn't have eaten a boy in that oven; it was only ten inches deep. She measured. No, really. She measured it, after the cottage's embers had cooled. This is the sort of girl that Tiffany is -- the one who knows certain laws and facts must be abided, and that if magic was in play, cetrain things would not be in play: If Snapperly was a witch, she'd never have been caught. A magic oven in a magic cottage would never have been burnt. Logically putting the facts together, she decuded that the baron was a frightened man who put a woman to death for nothing at all, all at the age of nine.

With a sense of justice, a craving for knowledge, and generally being too smart for her own good, Tiffany Aching is not socially awkward, but certainly, reserved. Somewhat alienated from her village -- a witch must be set apart to be able to do her job in both picking up and sorting the important information from her steading, and not seen as 'one of us' but an outside who can be spoken to -- she doesn't have many friends outside other witches, the Nac Mac Feegles, and the Toad Lawyer. This can make for a somewhat frustrating existence, but it is part of a witch's lot and Tiffany shoulders it admirably, though she is often stung and insulted when at faires, if young women ask about her love life-- or comment on her lack of lovers. She is somewhat lonely, due to this set up, but in her home steading, rarely gets time to think on it.

She is affectionate with those who need it to a point, is not demonstrative or gushy (or 'girly' or 'feminine', and sometimes feels badly about that) but she is very much a witch after her grandmother: she doesn't take any guff, takes her obligation to poke holes in the local nobility -- especially given their ego AND their witch persecution -- seriously, and is apt to speak her mind. If you're wrong, she'll say so. If you're VERY wrong, she'll say so loudly. If you're dangerously wrong, she may grab you by the ear and haul you off for a lecture or make sure that whatever you're doing is not going to hurt people. Passive, Tiffany is not.

She is logical, occasionally seen as cold and factual, possessive, and a little bit selfish - she's struggled with witching's self-sacrifice at times, but has mostly overcome it, though she sometimes slips, especially where romance is concerned. Recently spurned by the baron's son for being 'too complicated' despite many years of friendship and attraction, he chose to marry someone of equal rank, who he thought would be 'simpler'. (Tiffany takes satisfaction in the fact that Roland's marrying a witch who is just as complicated as she is, just in different ways.) She tries not to get nasty with Letitia at first, but she cannot help but think some very terrible things she manages not to say -- but she doesn't make it easy for Roland and can act out of spite if she thinks it will serve a purpose AND make her feel a little better at the time (such as arranging her 'lock up' in Roland's own baronial castle, telling him and his future mother-in-law off, and so forth, which is as much for herself as for the matter at hand).

She is viewed as a future spinster witch by her village, as nobody there cares that 'Geology' is not spelled 'G golly G', and so she has few equals in intellect and even less time to go hunting for one to be her lover, as she works a very large steading and is very aware of her responsibility to be people in it. Tiffany is a workaholic by nature - she enjoyed the invisibility of working hard as a dairymaid on her family farm where she got lost in her chores, but had to cultivate respect as a witch within her own community, as she grew up there. She has it, but it is not always easy. People come to the witch with needs, and rarely does the witch get to go to anyone for her own.

However, all is not perfect in Tiffany's logical world. Tiffany is still young and while she does have Second (Third and Fourth, etc) thoughts actively, she does some things on the impulse of youth. This is slowly fading but she can be goaded into fast action with some effort. She'll grow into a more settled -- for a value of settled -- woman, but she will always have a fierce temper and a certain lack of fear when it comes to making first moves anywhere except romance. She is not unknown to make split second decisions; with the help of Second Thoughts, these are usually sound ones, but she's done some stupid things on impulse that nearly wrecked the world before -- like stepped into the Morris Dance in Summer's place. (Summer has mostly forgiven her. Mostly.)

Tiffany uses very little 'Boffo', or 'obviously magickal trappings' like warty noses, fake skulls, and star-covered pointy hats in her work. She takes a very pragmatic approach -- everybody knows she's a witch, she's worked hard to make her steading safe, and she learned a long time ago that the 'Boffo' doesn't make the witch -- it's most often a crutch for witches who are not very good at other forms of magic, lack other important skills, or headology. She takes pride in her ability to get the job done without a lot of dress up and plastic bats.

In the matter of fear, Tiffany is not a conventional girl. She is not afraid of Death, as she has seen him many times and has walked a creature so inhuman that it was desperate to experience death to the afterlife. She is not afraid of failure, but certainly does not seek it. As a witch, failing her Steading is a big problem -- people depend on her; if she's not out to do her rounds, make her medicines, cut toenails, make the elderly comfortable or check on the babies, both furry or otherwise, who will do it? She takes her steading responsibilities very seriously and is driven to see to it that those she cares for are protected.

If kept from this she would be very frustrated and upset - a steading with a bad witch is a steading with trouble indeed. To this end, Tiffany does not like being out of control, and lack of respect is frustrating to any witch -- especially a very young one. It hampers what she can get done, an that's very important to Tiffany to be able to do her job. If they see a sixteen year old girl, instead of a sixteen year old witch, it's often harder to get things done in a straight forward manner.

Tiffany does fear that the girls are right, however, and that she's given so much to her steading that there will never be anything for herself and a family of her own. Roland betrayed her and she will not be apt to immediately trust a young man in the matters of the heart again.

With no other witches with which to confer with, one other thing that may be a problem for Tiffany is 'cackling' or 'going to the dark'. It's the suggestion that witches, especially regularly disrespected witches in distant steadings, will eventually go 'gingerbread houses and big ovens' or start turning people into frogs willy-nilly when their hard work goes repeatedly disrespected, they're treated as a convenience instead of the hard working people they are, etc. Usually, witches will check up on each other, make sure they sit down, have tea, work it all out -- but with no one to empathize in her position, Tiffany may be more vulnerable to fits of temper, especially if she has to struggle for respect. "Next thing you know it's spinning wheels and castles sleeping."

While she's a very centered girl (partially because she has seen what she is like without a conscience and nothing but her id and her powers, thanks to the Hiver), this is always a possibility, to drive her over the edge with disrespect, rudeness and generally taking her for granted... or worse, to continually treat her like a child. She has defeated the Queen of Faerie, walked the Hiver to the shores of death, kissed Winter and burned the Cunning Man. She knows that respect will be earned, but it will not be brooked if they see her as a child and treat her like such.

POWERS: Tiffany is a Discworld Witch. This means a few things:

Witches are what stories need them to be, as the entirety of Discworld is dictated by narration, and it's need for continuity. Myth, lore and story all have very potent meaning in Discworld, and they are as alive and moving the world as much as anything.

What this means in effect is:

Tiffany exists in a dual-gendered magic system; men and women's magic are different in practice, though you do see overlap (only one female wizard, to date, and no male witches; wizards generally remain celibate, witches rarely do so.) Wizards are flashy, loud, experimental, rarely get what they're after, and congregate in schools and universities. Witches are singular (though they sometimes meet in covens, and often check up on each other to prevent 'cackling' or going 'to the dark') and tend to cottage in a village, or nearby one in a remote area. For Tiffany, she serves the lowlands near the Ramtops called the Chalk, where witches have been in bad states for some time due to the Baron's son going missing a few years before the start of the first Tiffany Aching book, "The Wee Free Men".

Witches tend to the reflect the land they are on and their communities needs. Tiffany's grandmother, Sarah Aching, was the last witch of the Chalk, though she was not formally acknowledged as a witch and didn't do much magic - most witches don't. She was a shepard; Miss Level asks, in A Hat Full of Sky how she managed things, and Tiffany explains that Sarah Aching often made people help themselves, as opposed to helping them directly. Miss Level says that means she was a great witch, for few witches can manage such a thing.

Tiffany is a powerful witch, especially for her age; she is 'the flint in the Chalk' - reflecting the hidden stone in the soft, fossil-bed of the Chalk that was under the turf that the sheep grazed on. She is small, sharp, and not just a little bit dangerous. Flint will hold an edge for years, long after steel has corroded. This may help to define what sort of witch Tiffany is: hard and sharp, just like the soft people of the Chalk around her need.

Magically speaking, however, Tiffany's 'specific' abilities include broom riding, shamble creation, possession of animal bodies by leaving her own body 'empty', and walking through worlds when she can find the right place. She also has what is called 'First Sight' and 'Second Thoughts'. She can also 'move' energy from point to point. All witches use Headology to some degree. There are other minor notes to her magical power, but the major points will be detailed here.

  • First Sight is defined as 'seeing what is really there instead of what one expects to be there'. Not only does this give Tiffany a fine eye for detail and a near detective like ability to notice wrongs, ferret out information and catch people in lies, it also includes the very magical end of penetration of illusion, seeing the possessed for what they are, detection of magical places and things.
  • Second Thoughts is that little switch that everybody wishes they had they keeps what you think from traveling through your head to your mouth without thought. NOTHING Tiffany says is without a bit of forethought unless it's a damn crisis or something is seriously wrong with her. Her Second Thoughts ask why she's thinking that and if it is really that important. She also has Third or Fourth thoughts that sometime crop up at very dangerous times to help her analyze angles of various situations, but if she gets into Fifths and Sixths, Tiffany's head get very noisy and she has to start quieting herself mentally -- it can put her off her game, but working her to this level requires dire circumstances... like staring down the Queen of Faerie and telling her that you don't want a sweet, you want your damn brother back, thank you very much.

(As an extrapolation, to telepaths this makes Tiffany very difficult to read, if one can't make out which is a thought from Tiffany, and what Tiffany's thoughts are concluding about her other thoughts and what thoughts get to go forward. How this will affect Dollhouse tech remains to be seen, and will be at staff discretion.)
  • An extension just developing for Tiffany -- of the First Sight and Second Thoughts is the ability to 'read the narration' -- or to hear the thoughts that people very much want to say, but don't. This makes her difficult to lie to as the truth is often screaming behind a lie, and she often picks up on subtle dynamics; a watchmen who doesn't want to deal with a certain thing or item, for example, will think 'loudly' about it. She's not a mind reader-- just happens to catch certain overflow from people's minds. She cannot, will not go digging about in someone's head for 'thoughts or dreams' or anything of the sort; she just catches the unspoken, the sublimated or the hidden, but the known.
  • Tiffany can also 'Borrow' -- she can leave her body and look around where she can't normally. This can get her into trouble as it leaves her body VACANT and it can be occupied by malevolent forces while she's 'out'. She will sense this, however -- what she won't always sense is physical thing. She'll feel a spiritual invasion, but she may not notice that she's been slapped for a moment. This skill has gotten her into trouble before, and so largely, she rarely uses it anymore -- and certainly no longer uses it simply for vanity of 'See Me', seeing herself without a mirror.
  • Tiffany can create 'Shambles'; these oracular objects are made with string, bits of odds and ends, and something living -- a mouse, egg, bug, Nac Mac Feegle. They can be made and preserved as 'warning devices' for magical intrusion (breaking, glowing, or otherwise alerting the witch) or simply help with scrying efforts on locations of hidden magics, disguised places, and things that are too far for First Sight to See.
  • Tiffany can fly on a broom. This is pretty straightforward. This often means warm pants under your dress, sturdy boots and not showing people your knickers.
  • Energy movement is another skill of Tiffany's -- she can do this with any 'energy', including living energies, like pain in the body, whicih is useful in midwifery or hospice care. The energy is invisible, and traverses through her without harming her; she can stick her hand in a fire and move the energy up her arm and through a pointer to make it glow red hot, or she can move pain from a dying man's body to give him ease as he dies; this type of energy must be moved from her body -- it can be 'held' without harming her but it will cause her duress if she's not allowed to release it, and in the case of pain or other 'metaphysical' items, is likely to destroy or damage any object it is moved into -- the dying baron's pain takes a guard's helmet and warps it in half. Energy always needs an outlet somewhere.
  • Lastly is Headology; Tiffany is a student of this magic that most witches possess -- it's sort of like an magically active psychology. It is said that Granny Weatherwax can guilt a sodden log into becoming a roaring fire simply by giving it a disapproving glance, but Tiffany is not so practiced. She tends to use this on people more then objects, but this is not entirely on it's own. Sometimes magic is not actually magic -- she may order "bucket, fill yourself" and it was truly a nearby friendly Feegle that did the command then 'magic' -- but the person watching doesn't need to know that.

There are other minor spells and abilities, but little wand waving or lightening summoning is done -- Tiffany's magic is less about what is done, but what isn't. It's what isn't seen that is important. This does not mean she's not capable of great, rending acts of power. It's simply that great, rending acts of power are ususally stupid, tip your hand, put other people in danger, or don't make any sense. While the Hiver controlled her, her magic was used to kill a woman by burning her to cinders, and poorly making a man into a frog (Not all of him fit inside; it was very messy). Tiffany is capable of these sorts of magics, but even in the face of great threats, rarely do witches wave their hand and draw down lightening from the sky. Tiffany has always solved her problems with her smarts, not her power.

For completely nonmagical abilities, Tiffany is a dairymaid, expert cheese maker, shepard, midwife for both woman and beast, herbalist, hospice worker, and old-time vet and something like a village doctor when need be. She is not trained in extensive combat, but often relies on Headology instead. If a witch or wisewoman does it in fiction, likely, Tiffany has that skill in her repertoire, with a bent toward the specifics of the British lowland country and their needs, with some time up the mountains later in her life.
  • Power Limitations: Tiffany's magic is fairly low-key -- she won't be walking anything to Death unless required by plot, for instance, or traversing worlds. She may find 'borrowing' more difficult as people are not even in their right minds and animals may be hard to come by (she doesn't like it much anyway). Lacking the backing of Feegles in the world (till as such time as we can get a mound approved and some Feegles NPC'd by staff if possible?) she also loses some of her 'fake' magic by having Feegles about to assist in faking-magic.

NAME: Apollo Justice
JOURNAL: [personal profile] notabunnylawyer
FANDOM: Ace Attorney
AGE: 22
APPEARANCE: Here's a picture!

Apollo is a short young man, standing about 5'4" with a build that's on the small side and a little thinner than it should be. Though he's 22 years old, he's often mistaken for being younger thanks to the combination of his height and youthful appearance. Apollo has a medium-peach skin tone and a smooth, rounded face with big brown eyes and oddly forked eyebrows. His brown hair is slicked back showing off a wide expanse of forehead, with two spikes of hair at the front, one styled to be a little longer than the other.

His usual court outfit is a red suit, with a waistcoat instead of a jacket, along with a teal tie and a white shirt with rolled-up sleeves. During his off-time he still tends to dress in a presentable fashion if he has to go anywhere, usually button-up shirts and slacks. He still wears red in his wardrobe quite often like this. One part of his wardrobe that is never missing is the golden bracelet on his left wrist, which sports a carved pattern that vaguely resembles eyes. He quite literally wears this bracelet nearly everywhere, except when he's bathing or sleeping.

CANON POINT: After the end of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
MEMORY LOSS: No

WIKI: Link!

Headcanon pre-game history:
At barely past a year old, Apollo was found a short distance away from a police station, with nothing more than the clothes on his back, his bracelet, and a note that mentioned his first name. Though the authorities searched for his parents, and he even made it on a few milk cartons as a found child, they weren't able to locate his relatives or whoever had left him there. Thanks to his lack of a surname, he was given the name 'Justice' by a particularly creative social worker before being put into the California foster care system.

Apollo was already at an unpopular age for adoption, and as is typical with him, he didn't have any luck with that during his childhood. Though some years were better than others, it wasn't uncommon for him to go through four or five foster care placements within a year, sometimes ending up in group homes due to a lack of available space. This made Apollo a distant, sullen kid, though he was outwardly preoccupied with being eager to please out of the fear that he'd get sent away faster if he was a 'bad' child.

When he hit his teenage years, he became more frustrated and angry over his situation, and began to act out in ways that often involved other kids. Being so small meant that Apollo was often teased and bullied, which in turn would make him fight back - and usually lead to him losing. He was temporarily suspended from school a couple times thanks to this, his grades were taking a hit, and he was seriously considering running away... up until he happened to see Phoenix Wright on the local news.

He was at first intrigued, and later a little obsessed. Suddenly, he'd found a hero to believe in, someone that genuinely helped the people who had no one else to turn to. The concept greatly appealed to Apollo, during a time in his life where nothing felt fair. When he decided that he wanted to be a defense attorney like Phoenix, that gave him purpose. Apollo was able to pull his grades back up, he started avoiding fights more often, and by the time he was released from being a ward of the state at eighteen he had a scholarship for college and was finally able to turn his life around to something better.

After that, despite some hardships in the form of lacking money and dealing with the demands of some nearly crushing student loans, he was still able to graduate from law school quickly and take the bar a couple years earlier than most other American lawyers do.

PERSONALITY:
Apollo is a rookie defense attorney who is determined in court and passionate about his job, to the extent of doing silly things like practicing his 'Chords of Steel' to shout louder during a trial. Unlike Phoenix, Apollo is more focused on the law itself and getting to the truth of the matter than he is on defending his clients - while he does put his all behind representing them, he also tends to be more doubtful of them. Considering all of his clients so far have done something or other that was shady or illegal, a little doubt isn't unwarranted.

As a contrast to how he is in the courtroom, outside of it Apollo is a fairly normal - and sometimes downright boring - person. He places a lot of importance on being a responsible adult, never mind that he's still at an age where it's acceptable to still be a little immature. Unfortunately for him, it's not all that hard for someone to shake what would otherwise be a mild demeanor. He's hot-blooded, which is really only another way of saying that it's very easy for him to swing between emotions, provided he has the right kind of stimulus. He easily gets nervous, reacts immediately to being startled or scared, and even burst into tears once when he thought Trucy had been in mortal danger. But when given a little distance from whatever set him off, Apollo usually calms down quickly enough, too. Despite this, he's usually more logical than emotional, which means that he struggles a lot with the emotions that end up going against his own common sense.

Otherwise, Apollo isn't a very confident individual. He's a bit pessimistic, usually expecting things to go wrong... but on the other hand, his own determination tends to keep that pessimism from overwhelming him. He has one of those 'if you want it done right, you have to do it yourself' attitudes, and though he does accept help when he needs it (such as those times in court), for the most part he tries to achieve things on his own. This makes him very determined individual general, to the point that giving up or admitting that he might have a problem is a kind of weakness he's reluctant to display. While Apollo does have his fair share of problems that bother him - such as abandonment issues, lack of trust in people, and struggling self-worth - he doesn't like to show that he's anything but well-adjusted, and Apollo rarely talks about his childhood or his lingering fears with anyone. Getting him to open up usually takes a lot of time and patience.

One other important thing to note about Apollo is that he is a jaded character, though not as much as some others in the series. While his childhood as a foster child left him exposed to a lot of bad things, he held onto hope after discovering Phoenix Wright and learning that there are people out there trying to make the world better for everyone. Once he did achieve his dream of being a lawyer, of course, he found out that things weren't all they were cracked up to be, and his brief spots of optimism never seem to last very long. He has a sarcastic streak, and while he usually isn't mean about it, it gets more obvious when he's stressed out or annoyed with someone. Apollo is also a little vain, taking great care to keep his hair fixed and secretly wishing he could be cool.

With so many people having passed in and out of his life, Phoenix and Trucy Wright are the two most important people to him simply due to the fact that they have remained a persistent presence for the four months he's worked at the Wright Anything Agency. They are essentially his co-workers, with Trucy acting as his assistant in court and Phoenix a sort of dubious occasional mentor figure. Apollo gets along well with Trucy and tries to keep an eye out for her, feeling responsible for her well-being while she's in his care. Phoenix tends to annoy him both for his teasing and his extremely vague methods of guidance, but Apollo is getting used to it, especially now that he knows that Phoenix actually does have a method behind his madness, so to speak.

POWERS:
Through the combination of both an inborn talent and the bracelet he wears, Apollo is basically a living lie detector. His bracelet alerts him to even the slightest tension in others, and since liars subconsciously tense up in the act of telling a lie, Apollo is able to see this happening in court. From there, he can find the nervous tic of the liar and then use that as evidence that they're lying. (In-game, this is called the Perceive system).

The more complicated explanation of how this works is that the sensing of tension in others is actually an inborn, inherited ability. It's similar to 'kinetic sight' and is something passed through the Gramarye bloodline. Since Apollo isn't very skilled with the ability yet, it's his bracelet that alerts him to the tension he's unaware he's seeing. Seeing it makes him tense in return, which makes the bracelet feel tighter on his wrist. Since the bracelet itself made of a special metal that adjusts to the wearer's size based on body heat, it will adjust to fit anyone that wears it - but only works as an indicator for those who have the Perceive ability in the first place.

This ability absolutely depends on sight, and his ability to see the other person's body language. This means that he'd be able to use it while watching a video, but if it's only audio or text then it's simply not possible. While using Perceive, in his own vision, everything goes red and time seems to slows down - but other than an even more intense stare than usual, there aren't any other external clues that he's doing it.

Apollo's power will not be limited, as it is a small, subtle ability in the first place.

YOUR CHARACTER
NAME: Chandra Nalaar
JOURNAL: Burningbrightly
FANDOM: Magic the Gathering
AGE: 18/20 ish. It is never specified but the timeline suggests that her age is around 18-20, with 20 possibly being a little high.
APPEARANCE: Long red hair, bronzed skin, her eye color varies between blue, red amber and brown. She wears a combination of armor and cloth clothing with a breastplate, chainmail, fingerless gloves with bracers and knee high heavy boots of metal and leather. She also wears and uses red tinted goggles.
When she is angry or her powers are in use, her hair turns into flames and her eyes glow yellow. Her hands become wreathed in flames.
CANON POINT: After her encounter with Sarkhan Vol in Zendikar, when she 'walks away.
MEMORY LOSS: Temporary memory loss maybe as well as a disruption of powers. Or she could forget how to planeswalk out, otherwise she'd go NOPENOPENOPE and try to leave immediately.

WIKI:wiki
(not wiki, but relevant web comics that provide some additional stuff the wiki sort of glosses over and only if you want to look =x)
Comic 1 Comic 2 Comic 3

PERSONALITY:
Chandra draws her magic from red mana, which lies in the very bones of the earth; in mountains and volcanoes; in lava and rocky crags. It is frenzy, it is passionate, untamed, reckless energy. It fuels her personality with those traits. It's fiery nature is at the very core of her being, some times making her too rash or shortsighted. At other times, it makes her dynamic and unbound, enabling her to tap even greater potential.
From a very young age, she was always free willed and temperamental. She grew up for the most part in a plane where fire magic was considered evil/bad/not good. But was a natural pyromancer, so she continued to learn and develop her abilities without concern.

When her family decided to marry her off in order to try and 'settle her down'. She lashed out, impulsively using fire to scare them away. Her rash behavior had dire consequences however, and her family and village paid the price. Her dislike of authority might have begun with her parents, but it was solidified when soldiers burned her family along with the rest of the villagers, believing them to be fire worshiping rebels. Regardless of when it started, it was fully developed some years later when she was pitted against the Order of Heliud (yet another fanatical group of fire haters). (My head cannon thinks that her hatred of authority began with her familyt/village and only grew from there.)

Aside from being a hellion, she is also compassionate and caring, wiling to sacrifice and endanger herself for others. When the 'Mind mage' Jace Beleren came after her for the Dragon Scroll, he used a child to get to her. Chandra went out of her way to ensure the safety of the child. Later, when her new adopted home, Keral Keep, came under attack by a group of fanatics calling themselves the Order of Heliud, she surrendered herself rather than allow the people there to die for her sake, even when they were willing to.

After her dealings with the Order, Chandra does seem to gain some focus and control over herself and her fire abilities. Her guilt for the death of her family and village, expunged, she is a little more forgiving or at least tolerant of others. She still hates authority figures, but is less likely to blow someone up because she is having a bad day.

Chandra can appear to be naïve some times. After all she allowed a vampire to lead her towards the Eye of Ugin, but stopped him from feeding on her, by pretending to be asleep and then kicking his butt (face) with a boot. When timely help arrived in the form of a madman named Sarkhan Vol, she followed him to the Eye of Ugin without really questioning why he would take her. Later, when Sarkhan Vol turned out to be not such a nice guy(and actually became a dragon), she accepted the advice of a former adversary Jace Beleren, without question and used his suggestion to defeat Sarkhan temporarily.

While she is impulsive, quick tempered (etc, etc, etc) she can be pretty cunning and clever on her own and from time to time, uses foresight, such as when she had copies of the Dragon Scroll made before Jace 'the mind mage' Beleren showed up and took it after fighting her for it. (personally, I think it was more a plot point than because she was overly clever or forwards thinking, but I'll roll with the 'canon' in case they end up with more examples of her not jumping head first into problems.)

And more to answer the direct question of who is important in her life: Planeswalkers from other realms because they usually clash, Gideon a white mana using planeswalker, Jace Beleren a blue mana planeswalker, and Mother Luti at Keral Keep.
Chandra also hates forests. She prefers mountains and rocky vistas to well lots of green (in case that is relevant)

POWERS:
Pyromancy- the ability to summon and use fire at will. It also makes her immune to being hurt by fire and her clothes also seem to stay unburnt as well. When she gets into the full swing of things combat wise, her hair turns into living flame and her eyes star glowing flame yellow. Fire encases her hands up to the elbow.

Planeswalking- which lets her teleport/traverse/move from one plane of existence/world to the next by moving through the Blind Eternities and also enhances her natural pyromancy abilities.
Use of red mana, meaning she draws energy from mountains, volcanoes, rocky crags, fire.
Even with all this phenomenal cosmic power at her finger tips, she still needs to eat, sleep, breathe... and can get sick, hurt or die like any mortal.

Obviously, if she were to end up there, she would be unable to planeswalk, or at the very most, only be able to planeswalk from one place to another on that plane/ your earth... or may be to Mars... but you know, dies without oxygen.

I also wouldn't mind her magic being intermittent and her spells fizzling from time to time because of some memory loss. I would still want her to be able to use her fiery abilities in the long run (or why else play such a flame machine?)

RP SAMPLE:
The inn had a bath and that, at the moment was all Chandra cared about as she stirred the tepid waters with the fingers of her right hand. Although water was anathema to fire, she still felt the embrace of the clear liquid to be welcome, especially after being on the road for so long. From her fingertips, heat began, the precursor to the flames she could summon at will.

Once the water was to her liking, she finished stripping off the rest of her gear and tossing it into one corner where she would get around to collecting it later. The very last thing she removed were her ever present, red-tinged lens goggles. She removed them from her hair slowly, feeling naked without them as strands of her fiery red hair fell around her face. Brushing the long strands from her eyes and face, she carefully set the goggles aside on a chair and stepped into the warm embrace of the water.

She was sore from her encounter with Sarkhan Vol, the madman turned dragon and dirty from running around the mountain ranges for weeks trying to find her way to the Eye of Ugin. Thinking of the eye made her frown and she scooted down into the tub, drawing her knees up so that she could submerge her head beneath the waters. Her hair fanned out around her, looking like flame colored sea grass. She did not see this however, as her eyes were screwed tightly shut while bubbles erupted from her mouth because of the silent scream she was venting where no one could hear.

Tomorrow, after she had rested, she would 'walk back to Keral Keep and ask Mother Luti about what she knew of the Dragon Scroll's origins. For now however, there was the bath and then there would be dinner and finally a big, soft bed to fall into for a few hours of mindless, peaceful sleep. Chandra was very much looking forwards to the much needed rest.
long.

ANYTHING ELSE?: Be gentle with me its 2am. I've had lots of sugar... and I haven't journal Rp'd in about 7+ years so I am a little rusty =/ Aside from that, nope, nadda, I'm good!

Sorry I sort of gave out at 2am XD

Revisions:
Gideon- Is a white mana using planeswalker who appears at first wanting to help Chandra, but Betrays her to the order of Heliud (I haven't read the book yet so I have no idea how this goes down). But later he actually does befriend her and they work together to save a small pane from the influence of a vampire prince. Later, when Chandra is going to be 'purified' by the purifying flame, he tell her that if she enters into the fire with a clean soul, it will not hurt her. She then confesses to him her guilt and the part that she played in the death of her parents and village. Even after they part ways, Gidion is worried about her and uncomfortable with how they parted, so he tries to track her down in Zendikar but looses her trail.
Jace Beleren is important to her because the two of them seem fated to cross each other's path, often and neither one knows why fully. (I sense plot bunnies but can't prove it :(.) They have fought each other before, and set aside their differences, but they are by no means friends or allies and probably will be hostile towards each other in the future for the simple matter that their very natures are opposed.
Mother Luti is important because she serves as a surrogate mother to Chandra and is helping her to gain better control over her fire powers. She is also the one who sends Chandra after the dragon scroll a second time, so there might be some issues brewing between her and Chandra (but it is just my speculation on that since I don't know the original person who sent Chandra after the Dragon Scroll.)
